How to Enable “Group Policy Editor” (gpedit.msc) in Windows 7 Home Premium, Home Basic and Starter Editions?

DISCLAIMER: I am sharing this fix as of knowledge sharing. Please note that using 3rd party software for patching system files might be dangerous for your OS. This is for information purposes only and I do not recommend it for production system or I won't be responsible if it harms your system in any way. Please be watch out!

From time to time I will need Group Policy to use and post tutorials which require Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc).But here there will be a question what to do if you a running for example a Windows OS distro like (Windows 7 Home Premium / Home Basic / Starter) where Group Policy Editor is not included. As you know Windows 7 Pro, Enterprise and Ultimate editions utilize this Group Policy Editor as well other features that are not included in the other distros but won't be mentioned here.

I am sharing with you a little installer that will help you installing the missing gpedit.msc on Windows 7 Home Premuim, Starter and Basic editions.

Download Group Policy Editor Installer

Special thanks to davehc and jwils876 that have created this installer.

After you have downloaded the ZIP file, extract it using WinRAR or any tool of your preference. Run the extracted setup.exe file. After that it will install the required files and you'll be able to access gpedit.msc command via RUN or Start Menu search area after the system is patched.

NOTE: For Windows 7 64-bit (x64) users! You'll also need to go to "SysWOW64" folder located in "C:\Windows" folder and copy "GroupPolicy", "GroupPolicyUsers" folders and gpedit.msc file from there and put it in the "C:\Windows\System32" folder.

Note: Please note also to scan any downloaded attachments with a premium version of AV / Antimalware software in order not to expose to any ransomware etc. software.
